We've explained our reasonings for our approach on several pages on www.maltmaniacs.org, so I would like to point you to the site for everything we had to say on the matter (perhaps using the Google search box will help.).

Basically, we offer the 'awards' to highlight a particular bottling within a certain 'type' category and 'price' category. We use the 'magic formula' that we feel gives the 'best' results for our audience in that year. We use this formula for ALL bottles, Serge proposes the formula but the entire 'council' has to agree. For number crunchers like yourself we also provide the PDF score card with all medal winners nowadays.
