The first Ambassador Cask I selected was released in 2005 and sold out with a few short months, this has become became a consistent trend for all of the Limited Edition single cask selections. However, all good things must come to an end and therefore the latest release, No. 5, is also the last.

I love my job, Highland Park single malt whisky is just brilliant to talk about and explain to consumers all over the world. The opportunity to select and release Limited Edition single casks has been brilliant and has allowed me to deepen my role and it has been fantastic talking about why I selected specific casks. But, the expansion of the Highland Park range to include both 30 year old and 40 year old has been tremendously received by whisky connoisseurs all over the world and we have decided to stop releasing aged Ambassador Casks after this 5th and final instalment. All of the collectors out there need not panic, we have lots of other things under development for release in 2009 and 2010.

Back to this final Brand Ambassador single cask. You may be aware we offer a new Connoisseur Tour at the distillery and as part of that we offer some samples of duty paid cask strength whisky which we have selected from our warehouses. These cask strength gems are brilliant for highlighting the natural colour, strength and character variations which emerge from our casks over time. One of these selections was cask 8845.

Each time I spoke with guests, I found myself looking forward to sampling this expression and sharing it with them. It is not particularly high in terms of cask strength (a modest 41.5% ABV), but this allows a myriad of subtle characteristics to emerge gently as the whisky warms in your glass. So when we decided to select a final single cask, for me I was drawn to this cask and really wanted to bottle it as the curtain call for our Ambassador Cask series.

Cask 8845 was filled on 17th July 1974 and was housed in Warehouse 5 for over 3 decades. This classic refill hogshead sherry cask stood out in its year for the aromatic smoke balanced with dried fruit sherry oak sweetness which are both very apparent on the nose.
